Boudoir Photography, FAQ’s

Posted in: Pacific Northwest Boudoir

Boudoir Photography can be something that many women want, but they aren’t sure what to expect and have many questions before they actually book a shoot. Let me answer a few of those questions for you as they apply to my boudoir studio in Ocean Shores, Washington.

Boudoir Photography FAQ’s

I’m really nervous. Is that normal?

It is definitely normal to be nervous for your boudoir session, so don’t worry. All of my boudoir sessions begin with professional hair and makeup. Many women say I was really nervous until I sat down in your stylist’s chair, had a few sips of my mimosa, and everything made me feel at ease. Then once your session actually starts we’ve been chatting for the past hour already that you feel like we’ve been friends for years. After it starts, you’ll begin to loosen up. If you’re still nervous, try out these relaxation tips I’ve provided in another blog post: Click here.

How do I know how to pose?

You don’t have to be a professional model, you don’t have to have done a boudoir shoot before, and you definitely don’t have to know how to pose. I’ve totally got you covered in that department. I know all the tricks to create the most flattering angles for you, no matter what shape or size you are.  So I’ll take care of posing everything from the top of your head to your toes.

Do your packages include hair and makeup?

All of my full boudoir sessions include professional hair and makeup by my professional stylist. She has owned her own salon for years so she definitely knows what she is doing. Before your session I’ll ask you about what style you’re looking to go for and send her a picture of you so she can be accurately prepared for your look.

Am I allowed to bring alcohol to help loosen my nerves?

As long as you’re over 21, that’s totally fine with me. I do offer mimosas or wine at your session to help you relax.  It depends on your preference in the questionnaire I send you beforehand.

Do you provide the wardrobe?

I do not provide your wardrobe although at some point in the future I would like to have a “client closet.” But for now you would need to bring your own items to wear. If you need help choosing an outfit, I love creating mood boards for you on Pinterest. You can check out my board What to Wear during your boudoir shoot if you would like some inspiration. I’m also happy to share suggestions.

I want share these pictures with my partner, but I don’t want loose prints floating around. Any ideas for the best gift?

This is a very common concern and I totally understand. I recommend placing an order for my little black book. This is much more discreet and will keep all of your images in one place and not floating around. I also offer digital only options where you can keep your images safe on your phone or computer. If you have any questions about these products or any other please do not hesitate to contact me at ambercarlphotography@me.com

What should I bring to my boudoir session?

For my sessions, I suggest two to three different outfits and any props you may want to incorporate. I’ve had some ladies bring guitars, sport’s jerseys, football helmets. You can bring items that are special to you, special to your partner, and to you both together.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, you can bring a friend if you think it will help you relax. Hype girls are always fun to have around and definitely makes the atmosphere feel more like a party. I also offer best friend boudoir shoots which are super fun. You can check out some information on those here.

Will my session be with a male or female photographer?

My team is composed of all women, so you will only have a female photographer for your session (me) and my stylist is female as well.

Do you do touchups?

Yes, we will smooth skin and do some basic retouching on all of your portraits. I do not do any extra type of editing however so if you would like stretch marks removed that is definitely something we can talk about. But making you look how you look right now in any way shape or form is not what I do. I want you to see who you are in your photos and love that person for who she is and what she looks like right now.

I’m not a model – are boudoir photos still flattering even if my body isn’t perfect?

Absolutely! And what is perfect anyway? Every woman is sexy. If you have any specific concerns we will definitely discuss it before your session. But I don’t want you to shy away from booking a boudoir shoot because you feel like you look like a model. Even professional models don’t look like professional models day to day.

Do you do outdoor boudoir sessions?

I do! Thankfully my studio is near the beach and there are some spots where we can do a boudoir shoot by the water and in the sand! My studio also has beautiful trees and forest on the property so we can do an outdoor boudoir shoot there as well. If you have property for this as well then that’s something we can definitely talk about!

Do I have control over who sees my images?

Yes, most certainly. I will only share photos if you have given me permission and have approved the images for sharing. I respect your wishes and won’t post or share any images if you’d prefer they stay private.
