Hey baby. Ew. Did I really just say that? I don’t even know you and already I’m calling you baby? But there is one thing I do know, they say baby a lot in songs. And since I’m constantly listening to music and getting song lyrics stuck in my head, sometimes when I’m writing a blog I have some really great typos. Like the word ‘this’ accidentally gets mistaken for ‘shake that thang girl’ I can’t help it if I really love me some Luke Bryan. Country music drives my kids nuts but it’s my go to. So when I’m trying to write a really helpful blog post for you but all that comes out is how we need to hop up in my truck, know that it comes from the heart with me. My heart where music really taps into my emotions and brings out my silly and fun even more than usual. And trust me when I say there’s a lot going on in my life at the moment so music is a must. But let’s talk about this hotter than hot photo shoot with Talessa instead of my breaking it down in my kitchen mmmmmk?
You may be wondering, “wait a minute! This isn’t boudoir! I thought I was on a boudoir blog!” Just keep going my friend, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. What is the point of boudoir photography? Let’s see if you can tell me at the end of this post!
I’ve wanted to do a trash the dress shoot for a loooooong time. And then suddenly basically on the same day two women messaged me and said they wanted to burn their dresses so I was like even better! Talessa and I headed out to the riverbank in Elma and it was one of those evenings where absolutely no one was out there. Apparently this location is usually pretty packed so we lucked out for sure. Because nothing says release, emotion, and closure than 15 people standing there staring at you as you go through your photoshoot. So thankfully we didn’t have to deal with that.
We started out with a few photos of Talessa in her wedding dress. Just to show that at one point in her life in her marriage she was happy. But then I had her start laying in the water, toss her bouquet, and eventually slip into something more comfortable as they say in the movies and get down and dirty with that dress.
Many people wonder what is the point of boudoir photography? And more people wonder what is the point of burning your wedding dress? But if you have a marriage that didn’t go as planned and you think about what that dress represents then it can be a huge moment of closure for you. The marriage ended and you can’t really burn the person, well I mean that’s kind of frowned upon. So if you take what the dress represents and burn that then it can be a whole new outlook on life for you. Close one chapter move onto the next. Closure at its finest.
After this photo shoot when I posted the images that Talessa chose for her own on social media she had this to say on my Facebook page:
“I want to thank you personally for this experience, I felt more beautiful in those pictures than I did on my actual wedding day, it was the best piece of closure that I could do.”
Thanks girl, that is exactly why I do what I do. So what is the point of boudoir photography? The message here is that every woman who does a boudoir shoot has a different reason. So the point for you may be completely different than someone else. Maybe you couldn’t fathom burning your dress and that’s fine! This is just one of the many beautiful stories that I get to tell every day!
