Invest in yourself, will 2022 be your year?

Finding time to invest in yourself has never been more challenging. The holidays are over, it’s a new year, we’re still in the middle of a pandemic. Who has time to take care of themselves or go for things they want?

I get it. There’s other people to take care of so when you ask how could I invest in myself when there’s so many other people in my life who need things, I totally get it. Putting our families and our friends first is needed and valid. But when we forget to take care of ourselves and make sure we go after our own dreams and goals, then really no one is being cared for.

You can’t pour from an empty cup

You’ve heard the saying before, you can’t pour from an empty cup. But how do we know when we’re empty and what can we do to avoid it?

For me it’s listening to my body and my mind. I know that if I’m not properly caring for myself then I tend to start not acting like myself. It’s not something I really can control, I just find that I’m super irritable and snapping at the people I love. They ask me if I’m in a bad mood, if I’m mad at them, what’s wrong? And that just irritates me more because I feel like nothing is wrong! But the truth is, once I give myself a few minutes of alone time or the opportunity to go do something that puts my soul and my mind at ease, then things start to feel better. In the moment it might feel selfish but I could be feeling this way and then I have a boudoir session scheduled that day that I head off to. I use this as my creative outlet doing something that I absolutely love, showing a woman that she’s completely amazing right now and helping her pull out her inner confidence. And once I’m able to let that creativity flow and know that I have made some sort of transformation in this woman’s life, that right there is investing in myself. My cup has been filled and I return back to my life not feeling irritable and snapping at the people I love.

But how do I invest in myself?

invest in yourself

To be honest, it doesn’t always have to be getting something extravagant that you’ve wanted for a long time. Yes if a boudoir session is something you’ve been hoping for for a while then that can absolutely be a way to invest in yourself. But it doesn’t have to be. You can find a few moments each day to give to only you. Go do something that you love and that allows your soul to shine. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air while listening to your favorite podcast. Maybe it’s snuggling on the couch with your dog and watching your favorite movie. Or, like me, going out and doing the work you love. Find what makes your soul shine and fills up your cup and go do that!

What fills your cup?

So tell me, what are the things that make your soul shine and fill up that empty cup? We’re all different and for me I have to remember to give myself some alone time. I love my family and I love people and interacting with them, but being alone is something that charges me back up. Maybe yours is being around a lot of people and having an amazing conversation. Or doing something that others may find simple and quiet, but it’s just for you. I would absolutely love to know what helps you feel more like you.
